Astronauts heard mysterious ‘music’ on the far side of the moon and these missing tapes prove it

In 1969, two months before the famous Apollo 11 landed on the moon, the Apollo 10 went into orbit around the moon.  The spacecraft was to remain in orbit around to the far side of the moon, where they would lose radio contact with NASA on Earth.

During the hour-long period when the craft was out of contact, the crew heard a strange noise being picked up by their radio receiver.  It was a noise they could only describe as music.  Being that NASA could not hear the sound, the Apollo 10 crew did not know if it was at all pertinent enough to even report.

The crew (pictured left to right: Eugene Cernan, Tom Stafford and John Young) debated whether to tell NASA command about the ‘outer space-type music’ that they heard.

The recordings were lost and for nearly forty years there was little public knowledge of the occurence.  Then, the mysterious tapes surfaced.  Alas, the astronauts of Apollo 10 were given evidence of their bizarre hour above the far side of the moon.

The upcoming Science Channel series, “NASA’s Unexplained Files,”  will air the recordings for all to hear.  They also revealed how the astronauts reacted:

“It sounds like, you know, outer space-type music.”

“You hear that? That whistling sound? Whooooooooo!”

“Well, that sure is weird music!”

“It’s unbelievable! You know?”

“Shall we tell them about it?”

“I don’t know. We ought to think about it.”

On the Science Channel program, Apollo 15 astronaut Al Worden claimed “The Apollo 10 crew was very used to the kind of noise that they should be hearing. Logic tells me that if there was something recorded on there, then there was something there… NASA would withhold information from the public if they thought it was in the public’s best interest.”

So, the classified transcripts were unseen until 2008, sparking a great deal of buzz and conversation about the mystery.

You don’t hear about anything like that until years after the incident occurs, and then you kind of wonder, because it’s such an old memory of those things that you get concerned about if they were making something up or was there something really there? Because you never really know,” Worden told The Huffington Post.

“If you’re behind the moon and hear some weird noise on your radio, and you know you’re blocked from the Earth, then what could you possibly think?” Worden said.
